Overview
Sindh is the south you almost never hear about, and Pakistan's deepest archaeology and most extraordinary Sufi tradition. We use Karachi as a base, fly internally to Mohenjo-daro (UNESCO, 2,500 BC), and drive the lower Indus to Thatta and the Makli necropolis (the largest funerary complex in the world). Add an optional 2-day extension to the Hingol National Park and the Arabian Sea coast.

Itinerary
Day by day
Day 1
Arrival · Karachi
Met at Jinnah International. Check in at Mövenpick or Pearl Continental Karachi. Evening sea-breeze walk at Clifton.
Day 2
Colonial & cultural Karachi
Architectural walking tour of old Karachi with a heritage architect: Frere Hall, Empress Market, the Hindu Gymkhana. Mohatta Palace in the afternoon. Supper at a private home with a celebrated Karachi chef.
Day 3
Fly to Mohenjo-daro
Morning flight south to Mohenjo-daro. Full afternoon at the site with a Harappan-era specialist. Overnight at the simple PTDC Motel Mohenjo-daro.
Day 4
Mohenjo-daro to Sehwan & Bhit Shah
Drive south to the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar at Sehwan Sharif, Sindh's most ecstatic Sufi shrine. On to Bhit Shah, the shrine of the poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. Overnight in Hyderabad.
Day 5
Hyderabad to Thatta
Drive to Thatta. Afternoon at the Shah Jahan Mosque and the Makli Necropolis (UNESCO, the largest funerary complex in the world). Return to Karachi.
Day 6
Chaukundi & Banbhore
Day-trip east of Karachi to the Chaukundi Tombs (15th c. carved sandstone tombs) and the early-Islamic port of Banbhore.
Day 7
Karachi at leisure · optional Hingol extension
Free day for shopping at Zamzama or the Karachi Biennale art venues. (Or begin the 2-day add-on to Hingol National Park and Kund Malir beach, $640 supplement.)
Day 8
Departure
Transfer to Jinnah International for your onward flight.
