Overview
Deosai National Park is 3,500 km² of rolling alpine plateau at an average elevation of 4,114 m, the second-highest plateau on earth after the Tibetan. From July to mid-September it carpets in wildflowers and is the last stronghold of the Himalayan brown bear in Pakistan (around 80 individuals). We run a three-night mobile camp at Sheosar Lake with a naturalist and rangers from the Deosai conservation programme.

Itinerary
Day by day
Day 1
Arrival · Islamabad
Met at airport, overnight at Serena Islamabad.
Day 2
Fly to Skardu · transfer to Shigar
Morning flight. 45-minute drive to Serena Shigar Fort.
Day 3
Shigar acclimatisation
Walks in the Shigar valley, heritage tour of the fort, briefing on Deosai.
Day 4
Drive to Deosai · set up camp
4-hour drive over the Sadpara plateau to Sheosar Lake at 4,142 m. Afternoon at the lake.
Day 5 to 6
Deosai camp days
Two full days with the naturalist team, bear-watching at dawn from the ridge above camp, marmot colonies, golden eagles, the great expanse of wildflowers (Aug peak). Long, quiet evenings.
Day 7
Cross to Astore valley
Long drive across the plateau and down through Chillum to Rama meadow in the Astore valley. Overnight at Rama Lake Resort.
Day 8
Astore to Skardu
Drive back to Skardu via the Burzil Pass. Final night at Hunza Inn Skardu.
Day 9
Fly to Islamabad · departure
Morning flight. Onward connection.
