Gilgit-Baltistan
Fairy Meadows
Alpine pasture in the shadow of Nanga Parbat.
When to go
May to October
The road to Tato is one of the most committing drives in the country, a narrow shelf cut into the cliff above the Raikot gorge. From there, it's an hour on foot or pony through pine forest to a meadow that opens onto Nanga Parbat itself.
We use a small cluster of timber-framed cabins rebuilt by a local Shina family, with a wood stove, hot water buckets, and a cook who has fed climbing parties for twenty years.
